Katrin Horn is an assistant professor of American Studies and Anglophone Literature and Culture at the University of Bayreuth. She has received her doctorate from FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg in 2015 with a thesis on the uses of camp in contemporary culture. Her publications include the monograph Women, Camp, and Popular Culture – Serious Excess (Palgrave, 2017), the co-edited collection Stimme, Kultur, Identität. Vokaler Ausdruck in der populären Musik der USA, 1900-1960 (transcript, 2015), as well as several articles on US American popular culture, most recently "‘Beef Jerky in a Ball Gown’: The Camp Excesses of Titus Andromedon in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" (Open Cultural Studies 1, co-author: Carmen Dexl, FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg). Her post-doc project “The Economy and Epistemology of Gossip in late 19th and early 20th-Century US American Literature and Culture" investigates the forms and functions of gossip in literature, magazines, and life writing by and about women. Her research interests are informed by questions and perspectives of Gender and Queer Studies and range from contemporary popular culture to the literature of the long 19th century. Katrin Horn is currently a member of the DFG Research Networks Cultural Performance in Transnational American Studies (where she inverstigates the performance of transnational stardom) and Americana (with a project on the role of gender and class in 1950s country music).
